Uranus Wiper Carbon Emission Offset

In line with one of our big hairy audacious goals of Keeping Earth Clean, we have integrated automatic carbon emissions offsets into our deliveries.
This makes every Uranus Wiper delivery to you completely carbon neutral and that much greener.
To be clear, offsets are not a replacement for taking actions to reduce our carbon footprint—they are a last resort to compensate for emissions we can’t currently avoid.
Our offsetting is made possible through our partnership with Shopify and Pachama who ensure our emission offsets are directly invested in the Acapa – Bajo Mira y Frontera Forest Conservation Project.
The project is certified by Verra/VCS and is anticipated to prevent over 15M tons of Co2 that would have otherwise been emitted.

A carbon offset reduces the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere so the increased greenhouse gases (in this case from delivering Uranus Wiper to you) have a net impact of zero. For example, if a truck releases 150 g of CO2 in one mile, taking actions to preserve a forest remove an equal 150 g of CO2 per mile from the atmosphere will offset the carbon emissions from that shipment.

Absolutely not. We're sure you've come across jokes or articles that validly criticise offsets. Our favourite is the website that allows you to pay £2.50 to carry on cheating while funding “monogamy-boosting offset projects”. In effect, you pay someone else to stay faithful.

We get it.

However, the reality is that going carbon neutral today is not possible without the use of offsets for most small businesses like ours. In this way, carbon offsetting enables us (and you) to take immediate, impactful action on climate change.

No! We will be offsetting carbon emissions for every order shipped automatically!

Pachama uses a algorithm-based monitoring technology to analyze satellite images of forests to provide accurate estimations of carbon storage and capture to provide additional verification.

The Acapa – Bajo Mira y Frontera Forest Conservation Project is a Verified Carbon Standard certified project.

Providing alternative livelihoods to community members is a core project activity, which aims to address the root cause of deforestation and forest degradation which is economic. This project will provide value chain infrastructure, technical training, and access to financial capital to support the sustainable extraction of non-timber forest products such as açai. Agricultural products on already converted lands such as cocoa, will be further developed and commercialized. The development of value chains provides income to farming families as well as community councils. It is assumed that people will shift towards these alternative livelihoods, which have a significantly greater return, than their current livelihoods, which rely on timber extraction. Since the project’s inception, local communities have actively participated. Community support has culminated in the project creation of Community Councils with legal representatives as well as a wide-reaching General Assembly which votes for representatives to ensure community governance.

Acapa - Bajo Mira y Frontera protects forest that is under direct communal ownership of the communities of Acapa and Bajo Mira y Frontera, who are the project owners and the indigenous Afro-Colombian descendent rights owners of these territories. The project is created in conjunction with NGO Fondo Acción which the communities have approved as the implementation agent. The project looks to protect the old-growth rainforest on the land. Historically, illegal timber extraction is an important source of income within the project zone and is the major focus of this project. Following from the gradual degradation of forests caused by continual timber extraction, many forest areas are ultimately converted to agriculture and pasture. The project aims to alleviate these pressures on the forests through the support of governance capacity (including individual property titling, land-use planning and conservation zone demarcation), the generation of alternative economic activities and income sources, and through capacity building in administration and management. By creating these alternative avenues and having the communities directly own and govern the project, the project looks to reduce the illegal harvesting.
