Carbon-neutral shipping powered by carbon removal
In line with one of our big hairy audacious goals of Keeping Earth Clean, we have already checked off many boxes – not chopping down trees, using recycled and plastic free packaging and carbon-neutral manufacturing. However, we're aware that the delivery of your orders leaves a carbon footprint.
That's where our partnership with Shopify comes in. Our partnership with Shopify Planet ensures that every bit of carbon generated during the delivery process is neutralised by supporting selected businesses focused on pulling carbon out of Earth's atmosphere.
Here's how it works: For every order we receive, a formula is used to calculate the estimated shipping emissions. Based on those estimates, a portion of our revenue goes to carbon removal companies that have been vetted by scientists from the industry . Those companies use that money to remove however much carbon our shipments created. Any extra funds go toward the further development of carbon removal technologies.
We've chosen an approach that financially supports companies dedicated to removing atmospheric carbon and stores it for an impressive 1000+ years using solutions like ocean-based removal and direct air capture.
Let's meet a few of the companies that help us remove carbon from Earth's atmosphere.
Heirloom
Heirloom is rewriting the carbon capture playbook, and guess what their secret weapon is? Good ol' limestone! Here's the lowdown, made simple:
Limestone's CO2 Love Affair
Imagine limestone as a nature-made CO2 sponge. Heirloom's twist? They've turbocharged this process, making limestone soak up CO2 in just 3 days.
They heat up the limestone to make it burp out CO2 – it's like a clean-up mission for the planet. Then, they find smart spots like deep geological reservoirs, or in long-lasting materials like concrete to stash the CO2 permanently.
Rock 'n' Repeat
Just like your favorite playlist, they keep looping the limestone trick to keep grabbing CO2. This not only helps the planet but also saves the trouble of mining more limestone.
In a nutshell, Heirloom's limestone magic makes an ordinary rock an eco-friendly superstar.

Remora
Remora's innovation is all about capturing carbon emissions from semi-trucks. They use a device that acts like a giant filter, pulling greenhouse gases from the exhaust. This CO2 is compressed, stored onboard the truck, and the device cleverly uses the truck's heat to refresh the filter. When the tanks are full, Remora collect the CO2 with a special truck and deliver it to places like concrete producers, who stash it away. And the grand finale? Down the line, Remora's CO2 heads underground to super secure spots – EPA-certified injection wells – where it's stored forever.

Charm
Charm is all about turning nature's leftovers into a solution for carbon emissions. Here's their method:
Charm collects plant waste, leveraging the natural carbon-capturing abilities of cellulosic biomass. Through a process called fast pyrolysis, which transforms this waste into carbon-rich bio-oil. Charm safely inject this bio-oil deep underground, keeping it away permanently from wildfires and erosion for millennia.
Charm's ultimate goal? To reverse the CO₂ trend by putting it back underground where it can't cause harm.
